August – May is a creative consultancy and football editorial series focusing on playing the sport: telling stories from amateur level, the consequences of a commercialised professional game and the vast number of varied stories at the heart of non-league.
At a stage when adult participation levels in the UK are in rapid decline, the mission of August – May is to show the true values football empowers through community and legacy.
Whilst the reasons for current decline will be explored, we will shine a light on positive role models within amateur football for a younger generation to relate to.
Our vision is to encourage more adults to begin or restart playing 11-a-side football, grow leagues, to improve and renovate facilities and playing-fields, creating nationwide football hubs – seeing as many people as possible benefit from the physical, mental and social wellbeing that only the magic of playing or officiating a game of football can bring.
August – May is a mentoring service for players who may be in the professional system or those who have fallen out of clubs and have stopped playing football in general, working with them to retain motivation and enjoyment of playing football at any level whilst helping them pursue future careers.
